30 days of reducing consumption

Less pressure to buy and overspend can prevent exclusion and create a better school environment, are the experiences from using cCHALLENGE at several schools in Bærum municipality. Through 30 days of consumption change, the students reflected on the feeling of being excluded, the need for belonging and the fear of loneliness, which are lesser-known aspects of the consumer society.

"Bærumsfolk for sustainability" is a multi-year collaboration between cCHANGE and Bærum Municipality. The project uses cCHALLENGE as a teaching program that will make students, teachers and parents aware of the consumer culture in Bærum. By changing a habit for four weeks, students learn about how their own choices affect both the school environment locally and society globally. The goal is to create a more inclusive school environment. The students' challenge is highlighted in different ways in different subjects. In social studies, they learn about ethical issues related to sustainability, for example how the production of mobile phones affects people who work under challenging conditions. In science, they learn about emissions related to production and transport.
